As a non-profit cultural institution, the Bijou Theatre is dedicated to fostering inclusivity and community by offering a vibrant space for live performing arts. We strive to showcase diverse cultural expressions that enrich the lives of East Tennesseans, honoring Knoxville’s heritage while shaping its artistic future.
Founded in 1909 and located within the historic Lamar House Hotel—one of Knoxville’s oldest buildings—the Bijou Theatre is one of East Tennessee’s most treasured performance venues. Lauded by The New York Times as “one of the best sounding rooms in this country,” the Bijou offers exceptional acoustics and an intimate setting with clear sightlines from every seat.
For over a century, the Bijou has been a stage for world-class talent across genres—music, comedy, opera, spoken word, and beyond. Artists such as Joan Baez, The Ramones, St. Vincent, Public Enemy, Richard Thompson, Bob Weir, and Aziz Ansari have all graced the historic stage.
